Something I’ve been wondering about homemade peanut butter — I love the Whole Foods honey roasted that’s just the ground up nuts. It’s not terribly expensive in the overall scheme of things. I usually end up spending around $2 for a small container or $4 for a big one. I’ve tried making it at home and it’s fantastic, but not really any better than theirs. And involves some messy cleanup and storage questions. So my question is, given the labor and cleanup, does it end up cheaper or in some way more advantageous to make it at home? Or in this case might you just as well buy it when you need it at the store?
If possible, I think you may be even more peanut butter obsessed than me?! Like Dave C, I’m also a fan of the Whole Foods Honey Roasted Peanut Butter. I have an on again off again love affair with it, but honestly at heart I’m still a Skippy kind of girl. Cute video though.
OoOoo, very exciting!!
Davie makes a good point. Commercial products may be the same, if not better, in most situations. After all, Skippy and Jif have been making PB for years, and how many jars to they make daily? thousands? millions?
I’m already looking into having this stuff mass produced (in some capacity) and I bet if/when I get to that point, I’ll source it from a PB manufacturer that meets my standards of taste and texture.
That said, I love making it at home. I add a little honey and use a special oil that makes it zing! Yes, zing!
Ooooh.. I can already taste it. I’ve been thinking about what I’ll make that will go with my Pennies on a Platter theme.
Yay! I get waaay too excited over this stuff! bk
