Sinful Chocolate Waffle Sunday Morning

March 30, 2008  |  Sweets  |

Good morning, Blake Makers. It’s a beautiful Sunday here in New Orleans. I felt the crisp, Spring air leaving us when I took Chopper out this morning. No more chill, but an ominous hint of oppressive humidity.

Pretty soon, that hint will be replaced by a full out onslaught of heavy, hot, wet air; for now, I’ll let these Chocolate Waffles take me away.

Again, no need for syrup (at least not for us). Eat these lovelies right out of the waffle iron.

Sprinkle on some chocolate morsels while the waffles are still hot. That way, the chocolate will melt into the waffley crags (and, yes, the batter is chocolate and there are chocolate chips in it, too).

Dust on some powdered sugar, and you’re set.

Chopper’s crunching down some kibble. Bridget’s reading Pillars of the Earth. And I’m completely at peace. Chocolate seems to do that.

Here’s the waffle recipe.

  1. I know what you mean, April is the best time in Louisiana – it all goes downhill from here. Yesterday it was sunny and brisk – today it is raining and starting to get muggy, at least everything is really green :)

    Waffles look great

  2. Yup. We Louisianians know it all too well. We pray for cooler weather, but then we pray for warmer weather, and so on, and so on.

My neighborhood is exceptionally beautiful right now, too.

    Thanks, Mikey! And good morning.

  3. Sounds like a wonderful Sunday breakfast. It’s overcast here (San Diego) and it rained last night so today might be a good day for a heap of waffles :)

  4. Now this is my type of breakfast. Wish I would have had these instead of the oatmeal I just finished. I’m sure they would make a yummy dessert topped with a dollop of chocolate chip ice cream!

  5. Yum! As for OUR weather… we can’t seem to stop getting snow! bleh….

  6. @Sarah, we could be best friends. You don’t think chocolate waffles are too much for breakfast. No, you ask for chocolate ice cream! Love that!

    @NikkiG, snow? What’s snow? teeheehee

  7. that’s my kind of breakfast… filled with chocolate!

  8. omg. i could so eat some of these right now!

  9. Mmm! I just did a memory post including a photo of my favourite kind of waffles – French gauffres, slathered in Nutella – and now I really am starting to miss that sweet deliciousness.

  10. Hey Blake, when I was a child my mother used to make chocolate pancakes on my birthday. She would just use cake batter instead of pancake mix and thye came out beautifully! Need to try the waffle idea.

On another note: Pillars of the Earth is a fantastic novel, far superior in my own opinion to Follet’s spy stuff. One of the best historical dramas I have run across in recent years!

  11. One of my favorites – looks yummy, B! :)

  12. lusciously! ;) . Thanks for sharing
