Kate sent these brownies from heaven.

These are Katherine Hepburn Brownies from our Gourmet cookbook. They were so good, I do believe they were blessed by Katherine herself. See the light in the picture? That’s her looking down from heaven.

To Make:

2 squares unsweetened chocolate
1/4 pound sweet butter (1 stick)
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
1/2 t. vanilla
1/4 cup flour
1/4 t. salt
1 cup chopped walnuts.

Melt chocolate and butter. Remove from heat and stir in sugar. Add eggs and vanilla. Stir
vigorously. Add flour, salt and nuts (we don’t like buts in ours). Mix until incorporated.

Pour into buttered 8 x 8 pan. Bake in 325 degree preheated oven for 40 minutes. Allow to cool before cutting.

  1. How many ounces are in your 2 squares of unsweetened chocolate?

    Thanks!

  2. Each square is 1 oz. Sorry I forgot to mention it. bk

  3. Oh! why, oh why! does your pics and food make me so envious and look at that ray of light shining upon those delectable brownies illuminating the goodness that you can only get with those chocolate squares..mmmm. Looking at your pics make me want to get a better camera, i need one. I need a camera that’s equivalent to my old SLR, any suggestions would be appreciated :D

  4. I think Santa’s bringing me a new SLR (Nikon D40) for Christmas, but it may surprise you to learn that I am taking these pics with my little Sony Powershot SD450. You just have to know which setting to use. Use the Macro setting at ISO400. Make sure the light is right. I take all of my pics at around 3pm when the sun light pours into my tiny kitchen through a single window. I’ll let you know when I get my new camera. Thanks for the comment! bk

Great pictures to go with the recipes. I love natural light too.

Always another camera. I have a Sigma Digital SLR, love it, can’t fit it in my purse, so I want a nice little point and shoot camera in the $500 range to go with it as a backup and for quick candid shots.. (Funny, I was going to get that point and shoot first, but my husband said go ahead and get the slr because you won’t be content until you have one. He just thought that meant buying one less camera.)

I know some ladies that would enjoy this blog, sending your way.

  6. Lucky you! I currently use my littly dodgy Sony Cybershot and have to rely heavily on the time of day (like you) to get decent lighting. I love sunset lighting, it’s ace but hopefully santa will bring me a new camera too. I think I’ve been good…

  7. These brownies look heavenly! My daughter is coming to visit for Thanksgiving and I’ll have to make her a batch. I know I’ll love them too since I love chocolate. Thanks for the recipe!!

    Happy Thanksgiving,
    Leslie

  8. Leslie,

Let me know how they turn out and how your daughter likes them. Also, let me know how long they last! bk
