Enough Strawberries! Blake Makes A Confession(s).

January 3, 2008  |  Rants + Ramblings  |

Hello, Blake Makers. I feel that I owe you an explanation for my lack of posts over the last month. First I’d like to apologize for no word until now. The holidays were busy, but they’re busy for us all. I think the real culprits for my absence are:

  1. My Business
  2. My Waistline

As you may know, I started my own company back in August. Since then, it has continued to grow, and although I thought the holidays would be slow, I was busier than I’ve ever been. I’ve always kept a lot of plates spinning at one time, and I’ll get this one back in the air – it just takes some planning.

Another unanticipated consequence of all this food blogging and writing has been the weight I’ve put on. I’ve gained 20 pounds since I started the blog, and that’s something I’m going to have to address. I’ve already started my slim down routine, but Blake Makes is going to have to change.

Blake Makes will still feature yummy, amazing, beautiful food, but it’s going to have to be healthy. The butter is what got me. Everything I made seemed to have butter…and sugar…and cream. I refuse to stop shopping at Whole Foods. I refuse to stop creating amazing food. I refuse to stop blogging on Blake Makes.

Again, sorry I’ve been away, but I’m coming back. This weekend we’re making a menu for next week then I’ll be back.

For those of you still hanging in there, thanks. I love you! And if you’re still reading, I’ve got a few surprises in-store. bk

I feel your pain – although the saying goes “Never trust a skinny chef…” I understand what you’re saying.

Good luck – and I can’t wait to see your surprises! :)

  2. i’ll keep checking in – nice to see you back!

  3. 1. Yes work (or in your case running your own business) elevates the degree of procrastination for foodblogging.

    2. All i can say is the …sacrifices we make for our art…

    cheers

  4. Hi Kimmers! It’s great to hear from you. Blogging is hard. Actually, blogging is easy. Sustainable blogging is another story. Here’s to our art, and doing all this for no pay…not yet, at least. Although I have to say that for now, my readers’ support give me all the support I need. bk

  5. Hi Blake! Just a thought on healthier cooking… Jamie Oliver has some tasty dishes that are usually of the healthier persuasion (as I recall, he doesn’t use a lot of butter, and his general theme is fresh & simple), or maybe you could look for some Mediterranean-inspired recipes? I also do a Southern-esque healthy meal with roasted sweet potatoes and green beans (or brussel sprouts), black-eyed peas, and faux BBQ chicken — faux because it’s basically baked chicken with BBQ sauce poured over it before/after baking… and I add in some wheat toast (Ezekiel bread is amazing, very minimal processing) if I want bread. Just in case you need any ideas.

    Keep up the good work!!!

Now, that’s what I call a comment. Thanks for the suggestion. Friday is approaching and we’ll be making our menu for next week. I actually love Jamie Oliver, and I think his new show premieres this weekend on the Food Network. Again, thanks for the suggestions.

Would you like to be a guest blogger on Blake Makes? If so, let me know and I’ll get you setup to post your healthy recipes. bk

  7. I’m such a spaz. I didn’t realize that that was my Em, as in my fellow accounting machine! There’s another “Em” that comments, but don’t worry, I’ll never let another Em come between us. How’s it going in Boston? bk

  8. Don’t feel too bad… my hubby has gained weight since I started my blog too! :)
