Wowsers, Blake Makers! I knew things had been quiet for a while, but this giveaway felt like old times. I told you with the tea giveaway that I wanted to gear up slowly, but you just weren’t having it. Ha ha! I received over 100 entries for this amazing 479 Popcorn!
As I was browsing the entries, and narrowing down to some winners, I realized that the Oscars are like 2 weeks away. Nothing goes better with a great movie than a great bag/bowl of popcorn, so here’s the deal. I want to narrow the entries down to 20 semi-finalists. Those 20 will have another week to comment on this post, and I think we should have a little Oscar-fun with the commenting.
If you are a semi-finalist (I’ll be e-mailing you this weekend), you have until next Thursday (2/25) to comment and tell me which 479 Popcorn flavor best represents one of the Oscar-nominated movies or actors. Sound ok? Sound like fun?
We’re still doing another (new and different) giveaway next Wednesday (it’s going to bee sweet), so next Friday two sets of winners will be announced. And, there’s no rule saying you can’t win two things at once.
Just to be clear. I’ll e-mail you this weekend if you’re a semi-finalist. Comment on this post by next Thursday for your chance to win. Good luck!

This sounds excellent and looks a wonderful treat!
I’d have to say Sandra Bullock in The Blind Side is totally Chipotle Caramel & Almonds. Her role is to be a loving, sweet mother to a new shy son, who was off the streets, as well as her current kids, but she can also put forth a punch of spice, if someone says anything about her kids.
I know, totally cheesy.
I’d say that the Madras Curry Coconut + Cashews best represents Avatar. Both are inventive, unique and intriguing!
My choice would definitely have to be Gabourey Sidibe in Precious & the Madras Curry Coconut + Cashews. Her character develops into a stong, bold woman over the course of the movie.
Pimentòn de La Vera = Penelope Cruz.
Chipotle Caramel Almond = Matt Damon because he’s hot and sweet
Black Truffle + White Cheddar is totally Meryl Streep — classy with a hint of fun
I think the Black Truffle White Cheddar is totally most like George Clooney because: both he and the white cheddar are well aged, George and the popcorn both give off a sense of expensive taste, and I’ve known both truffles and George to make many a woman swoon!
I think the Madras Curry Coconut + Cashews reminds me of The Hurt Locker because the work the team does is so essential yet not many people know about it or fully understand it. Like the Madras Curry flavor, the movie is about an exotic and mysterious occupation.

I would like to nominate UP for the Globetrotter sampler (not one flavor but them all), a little bit of something for everyone, quirky and yet somehow familar. After all the adventure starts at home.
I’m nominating the Fleur de Sel Caramel popcorn to represent Meryl Streep in Julie + Julia. I always think of homemade caramel with fleur de sel as one of the ultimate gourmet treats to cook at home, which is also what I think of when I think Julia Child (who Strep play in the movie)!
i really wanted to find something fitting the description of the vietnamese cinnamon sugar batch since that’d be my favorite, but i’ll have to say that the alderwood smoked sea salt is a perfect representation of mr clooney, who needs little to no adornment or frills to be absolutely lovely.
I think that Chipotle Caramel + Almonds best represents The Blind Side. I think chipotle with caramel and almonds is a very different, unique combination. The Toughy family taking in Michael Oher made for a very different, unique combination too. I LOVED this movie! I also love chipotle on it’s own. And who doesn’t like caramel and almonds? I think the two together sound tantalizing. The movie was also tantalizing waiting to find out what was going to happen with the NCAA review. I had not read the book. So I was very drawn into the movie.
Ginger Sesame Caramel is the perfect representation of Meryl Streep – spicy, sweet, comforting and with a sense of exotic.
I think that fleur de sel caramel popcorn represents Meryl Streep. Always Classy and tasteful!!
Avatar is like Madras Curry Coconut + Cashews.
Both are colorful and the lush backgrounds of the movie remind you of fragrant, exotic gardens and bold, tantalizing flavors like curry and coconut and the decadent luxury of a buttery cashew. Like the movie, Avatar, this flavor will whisk you away on an escape from the ho-hum everyday into a wonderful sensory escape.
I’m going to say Fleur de Sel Caramel for UP! Why… ummm well, don’t they just sound like they should go together??
I’ve got to say that the Chipotle Caramel & Almonds makes me think of The Hurt Locker. Chipotle is one of those ingredients that can be a little unpredictable, it can be stable, or it can explode. Until you taste the item, you never really know. Kinda like all those bombs the EOD guys were defusing in The Hurt Locker.
are we supposed to come up with something original cause my first ideas have already been posted! Tricky! I think I’m going to have to go with Chipotle Caramel + Almonds = main character, Carl Fredricksen from Up. He’s 78 years old grouchy (mildly spicy like Chipotle) but he’s a softie at heart (sweet like caramel). Such a cute movie!
‘Pimentòn de La Vera’ definitely suits Penélope Cruz in Nine… passionate, spicy and topped off with a big kick!
I have to go with Black Truffle/White Cheddar for Morgan Freeman in Invictus… it’s well seasoned and unique, just like he is!
I say Fleur de Sel Caramel for Meryl Streep because Fleur de Sel is harvested from Brittany in France, and well, Julia Child did spend a lot of time in France. Not to mention I can see Julia making this flavor combination.
Thank you for choosing me but I do not excell in this kind of competition. I have not seen any of the movies. Please consider me for future give aways. My blog speaks for me
I see a parallel between Pimentòn de La Vera and The Hurt Locker – you sit down expecting another fast-paced action flick, and realize that what’s in front of you is something much more complex, much more savory. You may even cry a little.
Okay, I am going with the movie UP. (And not because we watch it twice daily right now..) Okay, here is my thinking.. UP has lots of balloons. Balloons make me think of a carnival, carnivals make me think of cracker jacks and cracker jacks made me think of the Chipotle Caramel + Almonds. It may be a stretch. But it made sense in my head.
I am also going with UP and the Chipotle Caramel + Almonds.
However, my reasoning is this; the movie is sweet, like caramel and they end up at Angel falls in South America which as an adventure is like the spice chipotle. Also, the popcorn is described as daring and adventurous which is what the movie is about; the daring adventure of loving someone that you would travel at great lengths to realize a dream for them.
Meryl has to be Chipotle Caramel and Almonds. As Julia, she’s spicy, sweet, and a little nutty.
Woo, I’m thrilled to be a semifinalist for this one! That popcorn looks amazing.
I’m going to go with Meryl for the Black Truffle + White Cheddar Popcorn. Why? Like a gorgeous black and white photo, Meryl is someone you just want to have in your house all the time to admire and enjoy. She’s clever and hilarious, with that bit of pop that anything truffle adds to food. She ages way better than any cheese I know, though I’ve gotta say white cheddar is a favorite of mine. She’s also sexy and fun. You may think that I’d go for pimenton or chipotle to represent “sexy and fun,” but you know what? Sexy isn’t just the little red dress and heels. Sexy is also lounging around in your PJs, being comfy, eating tasty popcorn. And that’s what Meryl is to me.
Well… it’s hard for me to make the comparison since I’ve basically had no life since having my little one last February
But I’ll take a stab using the one movie I did see:
I’d say UP is like fleur de sel caramel because the old man’s temperament definitely goes from salty to sweet through the movie.
The Chipotle Caramel and Almonds is definitely UP. ‘Daring and adventurous’… what better way to describe the plot of that movie? The film is sweet, definitely has a kick to it that’s sure to bring tears to your eyes, and unarguably a bit nutty at times.
Ginger Sesame Caramel is “golden, buttery caramel with organic ginger… with a generous sprinkle of toasted organic sesame seeds”
According to the company’s description, “this unique snack displays tingly heat, gentle sweetness and a nutty finish”.
This says Avatar. There is subtle heat, a definite sweetness to the main characters and the ending is a bit nutty! The whole community is organic and connected to nature, just like this popcorn flavour.
Vietnamese Cinnamon Sugar represents Up! Both make you feel warm and fuzzy inside. Cinnamon is simple and comforting, just like the movie.
